1. What is the function of a liquid lubricant or grease?

Lubricant is defined as a substance that reduces friction, heat and wear when used as a liquid film between solid surfaces. Lubricants reduce wear and tear between moving parts and ensure that they operate more smoothly. Greases are much thicker and are usually used where liquid lubricants cannot stay in place. Although there are many applications for greases, they are mostly used for lubricating bearings of various types.

2. How do MILEX lubricants and greases compare to
    other brands?

All MILEX lubricants and greases contain important chemical components which lower the coefficient of friction and improve longevity, water resistance and temperature stability. MILEX lubricants and greases are formulated to offer exceptional performance and meet or exceed the performance standards of other brands.

3. Why do you have more than one product for the
    same application?

A particular vehicle can be put to different uses. Is your vehicle used for regular driving or hard-working conditions? Furthermore, high performance vehicles with multi-valve engines, turbochargers and so on require superior quality products to give the engine greater protection from the higher stresses involved.

4. What does API specification stand for?

API stands for American Petroleum Institute, a body which specifies the standards that high quality oils must meet. In most typical passenger car motor oils, the letters API are followed by a set of two letters much as SG, SH etc. (for petrol engines). Diesel Engine Oils have an API standard with the letter ‘C’ such as CE, CF etc. However, Diesel Engine Oils are popularly classified under the MIL (US military) standards. Popular specifications are MIL-B, MIL-C etc. These standard levels have evolved through the years in response to the changing engine technology which imposes certain conditions on the quality of the oil.
